Bill Nighy bought a toy bunny with him to the Oscars, and he revealed the adorable reason was that he was charged with "rabbit-sitting" for his granddaughter. Stars gathered on Sunday night as awards season drew to a close with the Oscars, and the evening appeared to be a roaring success. The host Jimmy Kimmel <a href="https://vt.co/entertainment/jimmy-kimmel-made-7-jokes-about-will-smiths-oscars-slap-at-last-nights-ceremony">couldn't resist making a fair few jokes</a> about Will Smith's infamous slap, Michelle Yeoh became the <a href="https://vt.co/entertainment/michelle-yeoh-wins-best-actress-at-the-2023-academy-awards">first Asian woman</a> to win best actress, and <a href="https://vt.co/entertainment/fans-defend-angela-bassett-for-refusing-to-clap-jamie-lee-curtis-after-losing-out-to-her-for-best-supporting-actress-at-the-oscars">Angela Bassett being seemingly unhappy</a> at missing out on Best Supporting Actress was just a few of the talking points from the evening. Credit: UPI / Alamy]] The 73-year-old actor took to the red carpet after he was nominated for the Best Actor award for his role in Living. Nighy missed out on the award to Brendan Fraser, but he didn't go home empty-handed as his Sylvanian Families pal was there to keep him company. We finally got an answer as to why he was walking around the red carpet with a bunny that looked like it had an orange stain on its head when Nighty revealed all in a statement to <a href="https://metro.co.uk/2023/03/13/bill-nighy-finally-reveals-why-he-took-a-tiny-rabbit-to-the-oscars-18436506/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Metro</a>. "My granddaughter’s schedule intensified and I was charged with rabbit-sitting responsibilities," Nighy explained. "I wasn’t prepared to leave her unattended in a hotel room. The stakes are too high. Where I go, she goes..." The <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/2023/mar/14/bill-nighy-sylvanian-rabbit-oscars-living" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Guardian</a> reported that the bunny was from the Babblebrook family range, which was first available in the 1980s but is now unavailable - leaving us to assume that the bunny has been around for a few years. While Nighy was performing his duties as a loving grandfather and bunny sitter, Brendan Fraser was also melting hearts as he completed his amazing comeback to the big screen. He treated fans to a beautiful acceptance speech, where he stated: "Only whales can swim at the depth of the talent of Hong Chau," and talked about how he started acting three decades ago. "I just want to say thank you for this acknowledgment because it could not be done without my cast." Fraser then <a href="https://vt.co/entertainment/brendan-fraser-gives-special-shout-out-to-son-griffin-who-has-autism-in-oscars-speech">gave a special mention</a> to his eldest son who has autism, stating: "Griffin, love you buddy," which was met with a huge round of applause from the audience.
