Chappell Roan has responded after appearing topless at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The 27-year-old singer arrived at the star-studded event, which took place on Sunday (February 1), in a custom Mugler gown that left little to the imagination.
The sheer burgundy dress featured a transparent bodice and was held up by nipple rings and faux nipples. It also flowed into a dramatic train, which revealed black underwear.
The striking look, which included a sheer hooded cape she removed for photos, quickly made the rounds on social media and sparked a whirlwind of reactions.
Some users praised Roan's boldness while others questioned the ‘X-rated’ nature of the outfit.
On Monday (February 2), the 'Good Luck, Babe!' songstress addressed the controversy around her look on her social media.
"I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit," she wrote on Instagram. “The look’s actually so awesome and weird. I recommend just exercising your free will; it’s really fun and silly :D.”
She also thanked her fans and credited those involved in creating the look, including Sasha Glasser, who worked on the prosthetic nipples.
Her stylist, Genesis Webb, also took to social media to clarify details, stating that the nipple rings and faux nipples were prosthetics. “This isn’t casual. They’re prosthetics, don’t take it down!!” Webb wrote in the caption.
A Masterclass in Fashion and Artistry
While many focused on the shock value of the outfit, others appreciated the artistry and craftsmanship behind it.
Makeup artist Andrew Dahling, who worked on Roan's look, described it as “fantasy” and “otherworldly” but also “grounded,” noting the importance of balancing the tattoos, prosthetics, and gown.
"There was so much going on - the tattoos, the prosthetic nipples, all of it, but overall we wanted everything to feel cohesive and really honor the dress and the medieval world we were living in," he said in an interview with Marie Claire. "The glam came from that."
Fans also flocked to the 'Hot to Go' singer's comment section to show their admiration for the outfit.
"You look so good there are no words sufficient enough to suffice," one fan reacted, while another said: "I’m gonna think about this everyday until I die."
A third chimed in: "Looks like the hottest versión of Melissadre on Game of Thrones," and a fourth quipped: "This one had me bamboozled this morning because I could not figure out what I was looking at until I showed my wife and she was like 'pasties'. Then it made sense."
One more user added: "Some people have never seen b**bs in their life and it shows. You looked absolutely INCREDIBLE!"
