The search for Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, has taken a heartbreaking turn, as police have released devastating audio amid their ongoing investigation.
The 84-year-old disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31, 2026, and has not been seen since.
Police are working tirelessly to uncover the truth behind her sudden disappearance, which has left her loved ones deeply concerned.
Nancy was last seen around 9:30 PM on January 31, when family members dropped her off at her residence near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue in the Catalina Foothills.
The following morning, her family became worried after she failed to attend church, prompting them to contact authorities.
On February 4, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office shared distressing audio from the police dispatch.
The audio included a description of Nancy Guthrie: "Nancy, a white female, 84 years of age, 5'2", medium build, brown over blue. Missing after 2200 hours as of yesterday," per PEOPLE.
Ransom Note and Evidence Found at the Scene
The audio comes after TMZ revealed that on February 3, they received a ransom note demanding a substantial amount of Bitcoin for Nancy's release.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that the FBI had reviewed the message and shared it with Savannah, who has since been informed of the contents.
“It's like any piece of evidence,” he stated. “You give it to us, you give us a lead, we’re going to look at every aspect of that lead.”
In addition to the ransom note, law enforcement discovered blood at the scene, though it remains unclear whether it was found inside or outside the home. Tests are underway to determine the nature of the substance.
“We do believe that Nancy was taken from her home against her will. And that's where we’re at," Nanos confirmed.
Given Nancy’s medical needs, including her dependence on daily medication, the urgency of the situation has only increased.
President Trump Offers Support
President Donald Trump commented on the heartbreaking situation during a recent bill-signing ceremony.
"I think it’s a terrible thing," he said when asked about Nancy's disappearance. "I always got along very good with Savannah."
The 79-year-old offered his support to the Guthrie family, stating that he planned to reach out to Savannah personally and revealed that he would consider providing additional federal resources to aid in the investigation.
"Very unusual situation, but we’re going to find out," he added.
Savannah Appeals for Prayers
As authorities continue to search for answers, both local law enforcement and the FBI are working diligently to investigate every lead, including the potential ransom situation and possible foul play.
Amidst the ongoing investigation, Savannah took to Instagram on February 2 to express her heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers from the public.
"We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him," she penned.
"Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment."
"We need you," she continued. “He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” A verse of Isaiah for all time for all of us."
Her post concluded with a poignant plea: "Bring her home."
