Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy, has gone missing from her Tucson, Arizona home, sparking grave concerns that she did not leave voluntarily.
Police have intensified their investigation into the case, with some sources fearing foul play may be involved.
Disappearance Raises Red Flags: No Sign of Voluntary Departure
A source close to the Guthrie family shared troubling details with the Daily Mail on Monday morning.
“Her stuff was left behind at the house: keys, ID, purse, phone. Everything,” the insider revealed.
This raises serious doubts about the possibility that Nancy left of her own accord.
"It’s not a situation where she voluntarily went away, because she didn’t take any of the things you would normally take if you voluntarily went out," the source added.
Savannah herself is not convinced that her mother left voluntarily.
"She doesn’t believe that her mom just went out of her own accord," the source continued.
This sentiment was echoed by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who confirmed during a press conference that a crime scene had been identified, suggesting something more sinister may have occurred.
Sheriff’s Concerns: Limited Mobility and Evidence of Forced Exit
Sheriff Nanos further explained that Nancy has limited mobility and, based on evidence at the scene, “She did not just walk out of there."
Authorities have indicated there are other signs that suggest she didn’t leave the home on her own, increasing fears of an abduction.
Nancy was last seen around 9:45PM on Saturday night, but by Sunday morning, her absence raised immediate alarms.
Her neighbor, Paul Arnaud, recounted hearing of her disappearance shortly after she was dropped off from a church function.
“We heard that the front door was left open," he told the Daily Mail. “So a lot of us are worried that it was an abduction because they did a thorough search throughout the entire day and early evening of the entire area, and they could not find her."
Health Concerns and Missing Medication
Another troubling aspect of Nancy’s disappearance is that she left her home without taking crucial medication that she needs to survive.
Today show host Jenna Bush Hager revealed on-air that Nancy’s medication was missing, further intensifying fears for her well-being.
"Nancy does not have medication that she needs to survive," Hager said with emotion on Monday.
The Search for Nancy Continues
The search for Nancy is ongoing, with homicide detectives from the Pima County Sheriff's Office leading the investigation.
The FBI has also reportedly been made aware of the case, and Customs and Border Patrol agents have joined the effort due to the proximity of Nancy’s home to the U.S.-Mexico border.
As part of the search effort, drones and a plane have been deployed in hopes of locating her. Sheriff Nanos stated that while the case is still being treated as a search-and-rescue operation, authorities have not ruled out foul play.
Savannah Guthrie's plea for Nancy’s Safe Return
Savannah Guthrie, who had just returned to work after undergoing surgery, issued a heartfelt statement.
“I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support,” Guthrie said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone, anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff's Office at 520-351-4900.”
